On January 7, 2023, at approximately 5:44 p.m., Eastern District patrol officers responded to a restaurant in the 1200 block of Orleans Street for a report of a male experiencing a behavioral crisis.On January 13, 2023, Homicide Detectives were notified that the 63-year-old male died at the hospital on January 12, 2023.
The victim's body was transported to the Medical Examiner's office where on November 1, 2023, the death was ruled as a homicide. Doctors have determined that Bertonazzi died as a result of trauma to the body and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled his death as a homicide on Nov. 1, 2023. The manner in which the victim's injury occurred is still under investigation.
