Horton was paralyzed in a shooting around 5:44 a.m. March 22, 2008, that detectives characterized as a botched robbery. The case became a homicide on March 10, 2023, when authorities in Dallas told detectives that Horton's Aug. 25, 2022, death was determined to be a direct result of the 2008 shooting.
