Stewart was shot on July 27, 1972 when he was 16 years old. He was paralyzed. He relocated to Ayden, N.C., where he spent the rest of his life. He died on Nov. 19, 2019. An autopsy determined that he died as a result of being shot. This date reflects the date his case was added to the homicide database.
