Wells was shot and critically injured on April 1, 2007. On Sept. 23, 2016, he was taken to Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead. This date reflects the date an autopsy determined his death was a result of complications from the 2007 shooting. Per FBI guidelines, a death is listed on the date of that determination.
